Public Health Principles
Earners of the Public Health Principles Badges attend the PHocus (Public Health: Outbreaks, Communities, and Urban Studies) Summer Experience. PHocus introduces high school students to the broad and interdisciplinary field of public health over a 1-week period. By the end of the PHocus Summer Experience, students are able to identify determinants of health and well being, explain the importance of public health to protecting community health, list important elements of successful public health communication, identify measures to address environmental hazards, and describe the roles of public health professionals and researchers. Knowledge and skills are assessed via a final assessment offered online. Participants must score a minimum of 70% on the PHocus final assessment to earn the Public Health Principles badge.
